Data partner onboarding guide
This step-by-step user guide explains how data partners get onboarded to Decentriq in order to monetize their audience data in Media Data Clean Rooms (Media DCRs), a no-code data collaboration environment for data partners to collaborate with advertisers, agencies, and publishers for the purpose of audience matching, audience insights, and audience targeting.
There are two distinct ways for data partners to monetize their audience data:
Matching their audience directly with publishers as a proxy seed audience for the advertiser, without onboarding the advertiser audience data. Data partners must meet light data requirements — they are only required to upload a list of matching IDs.
Onboarding the advertiser data to build a custom audience and subsequently activating this audience on various publishers. Data partners must meet heavier data requirements by providing not only matching IDs but also the user segmentation in order to create a Datalab.
Media DCR
Decentriq offers a no-code data clean room environment dedicated to media use cases: the Media DCR. It enables:
- Analysis of audience overlap
- Generation of audience insights
- Creation of custom audiences for targeting
The Media DCR enables two data providers to collaborate:
- The seed audience provider: Uploads a list of matching IDs
- The base audience provider: Uploads matching IDs and user segments in order to extend the seed audience within the base audience
Data partners onboarded to Decentriq can play either role:
- Data partner as seed audience provider: You provide a qualified seed audience on behalf of an advertiser and match audiences with the selected publisher.
- Data partner as base audience provider: The advertiser matches a qualified seed audience with you in order to build a custom audience. This custom audience can then be used in a subsequent Media DCR with a selected publisher or can be exported outside Decentriq for direct activation. To help you prepare and validate your data prior to participating in a Media DCR as a base audience provider, Decentriq developed the concept of a Datalab, a tool which validates your data and provides insights regarding your data quality.
When you onboard the required audience datasets in Decentriq, they first get stored in the Dataset Portal, a private space only accessible to you. From there, you can provision them to one or more Media DCRs to collaborate with advertisers and publishers.
1. Data partner portal
The Data Partner Portal is your central hub for managing Decentriq-specific settings. Here you will find:
- Technical configurations: Set up your visibility to advertisers, agencies, and publishers, define which collaboration types and matching ID types you support, and upload and manage your available audience segments. For more details, see Data partner configuration.
- Datalabs: Create and manage validated datasets for Media DCR participation

2. Data preparation and Datalab creation
Data preparation varies by your role:
As seed audience provider
Prepare your seed audience data according to the seed audience requirements.
As base audience provider
To participate in Media DCRs as a base audience provider, you need to prepare your data and create a Datalab.
Data preparation
Prepare your data according to the formatting rules and dataset requirements for each data type (matching IDs, segments, demographics, and embeddings).
Datalab creation
Create and validate your Datalab by uploading your prepared datasets to the Dataset Portal and organizing them into a Datalab.
3. Media DCR participation
You can either participate in Media DCRs you were invited to, or create your own Media DCR to initiate collaborations with publishers and advertisers, depending on the contract you signed with Decentriq.
As a seed audience provider
Provision your seed audience to Media DCRs and participate in collaborations.
As a base audience provider
Provision your Datalab to Media DCRs and participate in collaborations.
4. Audience export
For targeting campaigns, export generated audiences to your activation platforms.
5. Data refresh
The data refresh process depends on your role:
- As seed audience provider: See Refreshing the seed audience
- As base audience provider: See Refreshing the base audience
6. Run a Media DCR test
To test the end-to-end user experience, Decentriq provides support to simulate a Media DCR with a publisher. Follow these steps:
- Set up a data usage configuration with hashed email as matching ID
- Download the dummy audience file containing hashed emails: data_partner_audience.csv
- Upload the dummy audience file to the Dataset Portal
- Contact your customer success manager to request an invitation to a test Media DCR
- Upon invitation, provision the dummy audience file and navigate the various functionalities of the Media DCR
